Suggested Text for Letter to City Council
Dear Council Member,
Please refer instant runoff voting (IRV) to the November 2026 ballot and let the people of Denver decide how we want to elect our city officials. Instant runoff voting has been around for more than 100 years and is used in dozens of cities across the nation, including several here in Colorado with very high voter satisfaction.
Instant runoff voting will save the City of Denver millions in taxpayer money as well as keep voter turnout higher as it tends to drop substantially with the current runoff system. Candidates tend to focus more on the issues because they may be asking a voter for the number two spot.
In addition to more savings and better campaigning, instant runoff voting is a fairer way to hold elections. We can vote our values without worrying about a “spoiler effect”; we rank who we love, who we like, and who we can live with.
Thank you for your service and your consideration in this matter.
Respectfully,
